La Fabrica de Pastas Alimenticias La Moderna, was founded in 1920 when brothers Vendrel of Spanish origin made a partnership with Don Alberto A. Henkel to start a small pasta factory.

1927

They were forced to transfer the business to Don Rafael Costa, who along with his son in law Don Javier Reverter managed it until 1927, year in which he retired to Spain and transferred the administration to Don Javier.

1955

Don Javier Reverter sells the plant to Mr. Esteban Abascal, who modernized it and changed to its present location and acquired the best technology at the time.

1959

On June 1st, 1959 Mr. Don Luis Dosal (who died 24 days after), Don Carlos Scougall and Don Eduardo Monroy Cardenas acquire the plant as a partnership and Mr. Monroy becomes the head of the General Direction.

Don Carlos sells his share to Don Eduardo, and at the age 33 takes full control of the company. Based on effort, care in quality production and excellent service, La Moderna was conquering the markets of the state of Hidalgo and the Mexican Bajio region and simultaneously expanding through the State of Mexico and its surrounding area.

The company motto was "Excellence in Flavor and Quality Assurance". The secret of a good service was the result of a hard work. The market was growing, which required hiring sales agents to continue providing the personalized service.

Since that time it was set as a business strategy to stay on top of technology, acquire the last generation machinery, constant renewing of production equipment and get advice from one of the world renowned pastas specialists, Mr. Geremia Luigi Zanon.

1970

Compañía Nacional de Harinas S.A. de C.V., today Molinos del Sudeste S.A. de C.V. located in Toluca city, was the first mill to be acquired by Eduardo Monroy Cardenas. It eventually became the main supplier of raw material for Fabrica de Pastas La Moderna.

1972

The country was enjoying economic growth and stability known as the "Mexican miracle". These factors favored the installation of a cookie factory in the city of Toluca which was formed on December 30, 1972 under the business name Fabrica de Galletas La Moderna S.A de C.V.

1974

Fabrica de Galletas La Moderna S.A. de C.V. would start operations in August 1974, in a property located in Toluca´s industrial area, on the road to Naucalpan.

1978

On October 17, 1978, emerges TABLEX S.A. de C.V. its acronym reflected the ideology of virtues of a good businessman: T-work, A-management, B- in good faith, L-loyalty, with the last two letters making an allusion for excellence and success.

1980

Películas Plásticas SA de C.V. was founded in December 29, 1980, located in Ojuelos, municipality of Zinacantepec, State of Mexico. The main purpose of the company was to provide flexible packaging materials for Fabrica de Pastas Alimenticias La Moderna and sister companies of the consortium.

1987

Se funda Películas Plásticas S.A. de C.V. el 29 de diciembre de 1980, ubicada en Ojuelos, municipio de Zinacantepec, Estado de México. El principal objetivo de la empresa era proveer empaque flexible a la Fábrica de Pastas Alimenticias La Moderna y empresas filiales del consorcio.

1988

Harinera Los Pirineos S.A. de CV, was founded, one of the most advanced mills in the Americas.

Interamerican Foods Corporation company is created in Texas, USA, whose core activity has been to open up the market in this country, and immediately reaching good results.

1990

In the nineties, Toluca milling units are modified to process durum wheat (Durum Tricticum) in order to get grits; from that time the pasta would be produced with the same type of wheat used in the leading countries in this field: Italy, France and the United States.

Papeles Corrgados Company is founded, part of the packaging division of Grupo La Moderna, and it is located in the typical town of Metepec, State of Mexico.

1992

Películas Plásticas de Zinacantepec facilities, at State of Mexico were relocated to Atlacomulco and the building of a new plant started.

Se reubicaron las instalaciones de la empresa Películas Plásticas de Zinacantepec, Estado de México a Atlacomulco y se inició la construcción de una nueva nave industrial.

1993

Películas Plásticas new installations were officially opened. Today, these facilities operate day by day.

1996

It starts the Distribution Center in Texas. Time after, it is achieved that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) recognized that the products of the Group meet the quality and safety standards for consumption and get a bidding to supply bulk pasta food to Texas correctional institutions.

In Películas Plásticas S.A. de C.V. new inks with organic materials were developed, which allowed to increase our participation in the food market and fried food intended for export.

1997

TABLEX -Miller S. de R.L. de C.V. (TAMISA), is founded in partnership with Miller Milling Co. of Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, in order to manufacture grits durum wheat for export from southern Sonora.

1999

Molinos del Fenix S.A. de C.V. (MOFESA) is acquired, the company has over 120 years tradition and is located in Saltillo, Coahuila.

2000

TABLEX S.A. de C.V. changes its corporate name to Grupo La Moderna SA de C.V. in order to identify all companies and plants of its divisions with the brand La Moderna, which has already gained a strong reputation in the market of pasta, biscuits and flours among customers, suppliers, workers and consumers.

It was built the first distribution center where all products developed by the Modern Group are transported. Currently, the country has five centers more: Guadalajara, Ramos Arizpe, Gomez Palacio, Merida and Tijuana.

2001

The “Tres Estrellas” brand was acquired so it was necessary to install a rice mill in the city of Toluca, State of Mexico. As well as a plant for flour mixtures in Salamanca, Guanajuato in order to develop related products, as it is the leader in Mexico for over 75 years.

Commercial alliance with pasta Capri Guatemala, allowing the penetration of “La Moderna” products in this Country and Central America.

Pastas Cora is acquired.

2002

Películas Plásticas was certified by the quality system ISO 9001: 2000 in December 2002, in a record time of six months.

2003

With the support of CONACYT, it was built the Center for Research and Development of new products in order to analyze and develop the ideas and recommendations that emerge.

2004

The improvement of Fábrica de Galletas S.A. de C.V. was reaching the lines of maximum health and hygiene, obtaining certification in 2004 by the American Institute of Baking; which establishes procedures based on the Good Manufacturing Practices, which ensures greater reliability for customers. Similarly, Películas Plásticas obtained the certification.

2005

Molinos del Fénix gets top rating in the American Institute of Baking and launched a project to promote the cultivation of durum wheat in the state of Nuevo Leon and in the north and center of Coahuila, as a result 100% of that wheat which is processed locally generated considerable savings in its transportation.

Pastas Capri de Guatemala is acquired.

2007

After complex negotiations with Grupo La Moderna in December 2007 it was signed the agreement by which Bimbo acquired the 50% of the shares of Fabrica de Galletas La Moderna. Under the terms of the agreement, the management and operation of the company would be the responsibility of Grupo La Moderna.

Molinos del Sudeste S.A. de C.V. is founded, being nowadays the number one provider of ground grits.

2008

A record number is reached (45.014 ton) of products developed by Grupo La Moderna placed in the international market, including America, the Caribbean, Central and South America.

La Moderna Food Products obtains the certification CRESE (Certification Socially Responsible Company)
